It’s the most exciting seafood dish since sushi became popular around the world 20 years ago. Poké originated in Hawaii, where fishermen began to create a dish from the off-cuts of their catch. Traditionally, slices of tuna and octopus are served with soya sauce, spring onions, sesame oil, furikake, seaweed, wasabi and a range of other ingredients. A handful of poké restaurants have sprung up in Cape Town over the past few months, putting all sorts of exciting spins on the dish. We visit Hokey Poke, a stylish new spot in the Cape Town City Bowl, to see what all the fuss is about.
