If, while growing up, you spent more time licking the bowl than eating the baked cookies, we have some excellent news. A dedicated cookie-dough restaurant is set to open tomorrow, Wednesday 25 January, in New York. Called DŌ, the brand is the creation of Kristen Tomlan, who was one such child.
“Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, I spent countless hours watching my Mom – a total foodie, cookbook author and local cooking-school instructor – create delicious meals for our family. I adopted the role of resident family baker, specialising in my favourite dessert – cookies! I was always setting aside cookie dough for my Dad to eat when he came home from work and sneaking a few bites of the unbaked dough for myself.”
Friday feels thanks to @grubstreet and @melissa_hom. The new shop is opening next week! Served in cones or little paper cups with plastic spoons for scooping, the cookie dough comes in classic flavours like choc chip, sugar cookie, brownie batter, oatmeal M&M, and the amusingly named commando, which is just straight-up cookie dough.
There are also, naturally, some slightly more eccentric combos, including fluffernutter (peanut butter, dark chocolate and marshmallow fluff), s’mores (Hershey bars, toasted marshmallows and Graham crackers), and peanut butter snickerdoodle (peanut butter, cinnamon sugar and chocolate chips). Naturally, there is also a Nutella option, and a peanut-butter version with Reese’s Pieces.

Also on offer are cookie-dough cakes (baked and unbaked), cookie-dough ice-cream sandwiches, milkshakes and sundaes.
The team promises that the dough is safe to eat raw. DŌ uses a pasteurised egg product for items that would normally contain eggs, and heat-treated, ready-to-eat flour.
Owner Kirsten is gluten intolerant herself, so is committed to providing everyone, regardless of dietary restrictions, with a hit of cookie dough. There are thus gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and grain-free options. A Kosher certification is also in the works.
The #Pope is pretty DŌpe. According to DŌ’s site, the cookie dough can also be baked; smaller containers will make between six and eight cookies each.
