The Mother City’s reputation as the foodie capital was boosted this week when it was recognised by internationally recognised restaurant website Eater.com with its list of 18 essential Cape Town restaurants.

Eater famously produces the Eater 38 guides for big American cities, and has a reputation for finding off-beat, hip spots.

The article makes mention of Cape Town’s “robust coffee culture” and affordable dining scene. Included in the list is a range of the Cape’s most interesting and diverse restaurants, along with recommendations of what to eat there. The round-up includes Mariam’s Kitchen, Truth Coffee Roasting, Chefs Warehouse, Inside & You’re Out, Hemelhuijs, Charango, Kloof Street House, Manna Epicure, Jason Bakery, The Pot Luck Club, Neighbourgoods Market, Tribe Coffee, Willoughby & Co., Baia, Oranjezicht City Farm Market, The Creamery, La Mouette and SA’s number two restaurant, La Colombe. Notably, there’s no mention of number one restaurant, The Test Kitchen.
