With a New Year comes all sorts of fresh attitudes and ideas. This list, however, proves that some things never get old – like memorable restaurant experiences with delicious food and drinks. The following 15 venues were searched and seen by the most eyeballs on Eat Out in 2015.

1. Five Hundred (Sandton, Johannesburg)

Outgoing executive chef David Higgs has left his mark, and the Saxon team is thriving at the site of the brand new The Test Kitchen pop-up.

2. DW Eleven-13 (Dunkeld West, Johannesburg)

Charismatic chef Marthinus Ferreira continues to draw the Joburg crowds with his tasty, elegant cuisine.

3. Village Idiot (City Bowl, Cape Town)

You have to arrive early to miss the queue at the door of this drinking hole, but the braai-style eats leave punters satisfied.

4. PRON Restuarant (Linden, Johannesburg)

The People’s Republic of Noodles takes guests on a culinary trip to chef Emma Chen’s homeland.

5. The Test Kitchen (Woodstock, Cape Town)

Always a winner. Chef Luke Dale-Roberts has nabbed no.1 in the Top 10 for the last four years.

6. The Deckhouse Crab Shack and BBQ (City Bowl, Cape Town)

If the half-price cocktail pitchers on weekdays between 4pm and 5pm don’t win you over, the views of Table Mountain sure will.

7. Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient (Elandsfontein, Pretoria)

An experience characterised by its theatre and playfulness, dinner at chef Chantel’s table never fails to wow. No. 7 in the 2015 Top 10.

8. Life Grand Cafe Pretoria (Hazelwood, Pretoria)

9. La Mouette (Sea Point, Cape Town)

Chef Henry Vigar treats his fans with the most reasonably priced six-course tasting menu in town.

10. Jaipur Palace (Durban Central)

For those who prefer the hot, the spicy and the flavourful.

11. Hudson’s The Burger Joint (Parkhurst, Johannesburg)

With an exciting cocktail menu, great burger options and bustling vibe, this is the perfect place for socialising.

12. Jordan Restaurant (Stellenbosch)

Chef George Jardine serves sophisticated dishes with just the right amount of minimalism at this serene winelands spot. No. 10 in the 2015 Top 10.

13. Charango (City Bowl, Cape Town)

Everyone wants to be the friend of this new kid on the Bree-Street block, thanks to its Peruvian-inspired fare and drinks.

14. Old Town Italy (Umhlanga Rocks, KwaZulua-Natal)

As the name would suggest, this Italian-inspired café and deli has a quaint neighbourhood feel reminiscent of days gone by.
