Buzzing Umhlanga Village has gained yet another exciting eatery and bar. Famous Brands (who are also behind the likes of Vovo Telo and Tasha’s – and who will be bringing French bakery Paul to our shores in the new year) has opened up Fourteen on Chartwell just in time for the holiday season.
The new gastropub will focus on artisanal drinks and food, using local ingredients and products. The simple, yet refined menu will focus on locally roasted coffee, herbs sourced from farms in the KwaZulu-Natal region and carefully selected local meat. Options include flights of beer and cheese; or beer and brat. These pairings include mini selections of cheeses and preserves or German sausage bites paired with four craft beer tasters. There are also burgers, salads and finger snacks available as well as a dedicated jaffle menu. Old classics appear with exciting twists in dishes like the lobster mac ‘n cheese, or the pie of the day with a red wine jus dipping sauce. Finish off with a hot fudge sundae or an Eton mess.
The extensive beverage list includes craft beers on tap, small-batch local spirits and a range of wines and bubblies. There is also a list of classic cocktail for those looking for something a little more festive as well as a cheeky selection of spiked milkshakes with flavours including s’mores with vodka or salted caramel with Kahlua.
Explains Kevin Hedderwick, Famous Brands CEO, “We have created something out of the ordinary that will relate to the Umhlanga community – be it business people, holiday makers or regulars.” In prime position of Umhlanga Village, the new spot offers a mix of trendy pub grub with a stylish cocktail lounge feel and is sure to book up fast during the festive season.
