Offering diners delicious meals from a well-thought-out menu, great service and a gorgeous view, and even purveying their own home-brewed beer, Pretoria’s Blos Café won’t disappoint.
This eatery is open from morning ’til late, so it’s a great all-rounder. You may start the morning with an omelette stuffed with basil pesto, tomato, mozzarella and sweet caramelised onions, or pop in for lunch and dive into a gourmet burger with thin crisps, caramelised fig, bacon and brie. Or what about their signature lamb and prune potjie, richly flavoured with cumin, coriander, paprika and cinnamon, and served appropriately with couscous? Whatever time you go, the quality will be consistent. Management have kept their heads in this new space, which is much larger than the established coffee bar in Lynnwood road, where they first emerged. The menu is tight, with enough but not too many options, and there’s a good grip on quality.
The wine list is an easy-drinking one. Cleverly, they brew their own beer. Combined with a healthy collection of shooters and cocktails, the choice is endless.
Except for the initial rush to get you to one of their serving tables, the well-trained staff are extremely efficient and take good care of their diners.
It’s a huge venue, with tables inside and out on the stoep, which looks out over the city. Despite the abundance of space, diners can select their level of privacy. Décor has been kept simple, and the look reminds one slightly of a wild Bosveld farm with magnificent indigenous trees and bushes.
They cater especially well for children, with parties and activities all part of the menu.
