At 4am this morning, monstrous waves crashed through Harbour House in Kalk Bay, taking out a window at the restaurant as well as all of the windows at Live Bait, which has been closed for waterproofing and refurbishment.

The popular fish and chips spot Lucky Fish and Chips was less lucky with waves having flooded through, leaving a large pool of water in the restaurant.

Says Bianca du Plessis, PR manager for the Harbour House Group, “Harbour House and Live Bait will be open for lunch today – such troopers!”

If you are heading out to Kalk Bay we suggest you pack your gumboots and enjoy the incredible views of the high tide at 3pm.

Eat Out’s thoughts are with the teams as they restore any damage caused.

Update: 29 September

Nearby restaurant The Brass Bell was also badly flooded, and dramatic photos show waves crashing through the restaurant. The restaurant will be closed today, and all the staff have pitched in to help clean up the knee high water. They will reopen tomorrow morning.
