What a dismal experience. The place was dirty and had rotting furniture. We ordered a VEG platter for 2, and got nothing but fried veg (which I could cook myself at home) and LAMB dolmades. We had to order extra dips and food because the food on the platter wouldn't have filled anyone up. Second time it's been a disappointment. WILL NOT be going back.

Gazi Real Greek Souvlaki Bar - Umhlanga Rocks strip (aka - how NOT to run a restaurant) I know this is at the coast, but with many people on Holiday, perhaps good to review, and I'll be sure to re-post this to the DBN group. Ok..........so I don't often complain about a restaurant, esp the service part as I've worked at restaurants, and let's be honest, alot of the time the job is just to put something on the table at home. So, that's the disclaimer, now the full on rant! My oldest decided we needed some Greek food after a rather warm and frustrating day. We seat ourselves on the outside pavement area and wait, and wait, and wait before we're very casually noticed. Eventually the waitress comes up to us, no menu in hand and no attempt at an introduction. She very haphazardly takes our drinks order after advising that they have neither tab nor coke zero. So I settle on regular coke. She brings the drinks and places a coke light in front of me. Uhm - ok, I said coke, but hey, least it's the lighter version. No problem - little did I realise this was a precursor to the chaos which was to follow. It takes a good long while before some other waitress appears and takes out food order - advising again that two of the items are unavailable - like, really? Queue another agonizing long wait (easily 40/50 minutes) for 3 dishes in a not very busy restaurant, where the biggest table had long ago received their food. My oldest and I ordered the souvlaki, with side sauces (my self the tzadziki and my son the scorthlia) which stated came with "patates" - basically roast potatoes done Greek style. We got soggy french fry chips. My son did not get the scorthalia. My youngest had ordered lemon and garlic prawns - their supposed "la med" choice. They instead brought us peri-peri prawns - for a 10 year old - which even zinged my self. I summoned the first waitress and told her that it was NOT what we ordered and I wanted it fixed, at R145 a pop, I wanted it done right! The reply? not a "I'll get on it", or a "i'm sorry". Just an indifferent "I wasn't the one that placed the order". I ate the prawns - which i really dislike cos a variety of reasons and let my son have my souvlaki. At this point I'm just plain irritated and annoyed. the food was average at best with the greek salad accompanying the souvlaki being very plain lettuce and tomato with some feta and olives, and of course the french style "patates". A third woman comes and asks if all is ok, i think this MIGHT have been the manager or a senior waitress, but both those terms have the same weight in this context as me claiming to be a billionaire. She half halfheartedly offers my son ice cream to make up for his prawns. I just tell her I want the bill, throwing away the excitement I'd felt at the prospect of having galatoburiko - a thick custard pastry i adore! We get the bill, and there @ R26 for a small samble type dish of sauce is the tzadziki and scorthalia each. Yes, the same scorthlia we didn't get @ R26 freakin bucks! Under tip i wrote "Ha ha ha" and waited for her to bring the card machine. She kept trying to use the presented debit card (long story, don't get me started) as a credit card and I had to tell her how to swipe it. As she's entering the amounts, she looks at me and asks "and tip?" That was the last *explicits* straw! Folks, when the service is this bad, even if the food was great, it wouldn't be worth it. The food wasn't good. How they are still in business is one of those mysteries I shall not ponder as I'd rather forget this little experience. Tell your friends now y'all hear? ;-).
