Researchers at the University of Alberta in Canada have developed a pill that allows the gluten intolerant to indulge in bread, pizza and pastries without the nasty side effects.
The pill works using egg yolk antibodies to coat the gluten so it passes out of the body without being absorbed. Designed to last about two hours, the drug can be taken up to five minutes before smashing that doughnut.
Before you dial Mr Delivery, note that this miracle drug still needs to undergo further clinical trials, and isn’t a long-term cure for celiac disease or gluten intolerance. But various members of the Eat Out team will be keeping tabs on developments, dreaming of the golden grilled cheese sandwiches, cakes and lasagne to come…
Listen to Hoon Sunwoo, associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Alberta, explain how the pill works to CBC News.
