The mission

While pumpkin is traditionally considered as a staple side dish to a steakhouse classic, chef Marthinus Ferreira of DW Eleven-13 is putting convention to rest with this delicious dessert on the new winter menu. You simply must eat the pumpkin cheesecake right now.

The experience

A tower of luscious pumpkin cheesecake is accompanied by a creamy latte ice cream (which Marthinus needs to start selling by the tub) pumpkin-seed crumble, spiced meringues and silky pumpkin purée. A perfect marriage of savoury and sweet for R85.

Marthinus’s innovative yet comforting dishes showcase his philosophy of using fresh, seasonal ingredients. This dessert is a perfect balance of sugar and cheesy goodness, designed especially for those with a not-so-sweet tooth.

The verdict

I normally like to end my meal with a sugar rush, but this dish has me converted. Make sure you get a morsel of each component on your spoon for a complete sensory experience.
