Johannesburg restaurant-goers are loving The Side Plate in Melville Road, Illovo.

The restaurant, which has been open for about two years, is always busy (a good sign!) and raved about by locals.

Situated in a converted house, there are plenty of outside tables in the peaceful garden to choose from.

The food is continental with a definite Middle Eastern influence and the menu lists delicious breakfasts and lunches.

There are favourites such as caprese salad, Springbok carpaccio, pastas and haloumi salad as well as interesting choices such as Mediterranean sushi – which is risotto, rocket and grilled vegetables encased in seaweed and served with parmesan, basil pesto and tomato salsa.

One not to miss for everyday dining.
