I have just returned from honeymoon in the Maldives on Rangali Island, and ate at Ithaa. It truly was one of the most incredible eating experiences of our lives. The menu is a 22-course tasting menu with everything from crayfish and duck to truffles. Each patron receives a pearl in a little ring box.
The wine list is exquisite, we enjoyed a bottle of delicate French champagne. We enjoyed the incredible atmosphere and had the resident moray eel pop out its head midway through our 10th course and swim right up to the window – mouth gaping as they do.
Ithaa blew us away in every aspect…including the price. As my husband, who has eaten at some of the most expensive restaurants in London and New York whilst entertaining clients, put it – its probably the most expensive meal I’ve eaten in my life…but worth every cent.
The whole island is a must-see. There are ten different restaurants, also notable is the Koko Grill, which is a sunken Japanese teppanyaki restaurant on the beach with no roof or covering.

Like a real-life Gary Larson cartoon, this time the fish are on the outside and the humans sit around for hours on the inside and dine. As you can guess, the world’s first all-glass undersea restaurant at the Hilton in the Maldives is breathtaking. Experiences like this do not occur everyday. In fact, far from it.
The restaurant, called Ithaa (‘Pearl’ in the local language), sits 5m underneath the ocean, and smack bang next to a coral reef to boot. This should inspire the creation of a new category of dining!
The intelligent design of the infrastructure allows 270-degree views of the surrounding ocean all in a very chi-chi setting and featuring a lush-sounding Maldivian-Western menu.
The restaurant uses ‘aquarium technology’ and transparent acrylic walls for the curved structure.
Enjoy seafood treats, Japanese dishes and international food whilst sipping on fine wines at the recently launched restaurant.
