Chef favourites

Harald Bresselschmidt, owner and chef of the superlative Aubergine Restaurant in Gardens, Cape Town, fills us in on where he likes to eat out…

When we go out to eat, it is usually for something ethnic. Our all time favourite is to go for Japanese food but it is rare to find anything authentic in South Africa.

What we also like is to go to Haiku for their freshly made dim sum. I am spoilt with my wifes Indian cooking so there is no need to ever go out for a curry!

We rarely go out to any black tie or formal dinners and I would rather cook up a storm at home with ingredients like foie gras and crayfish etc that I cook with all the time but do not get a chance to eat and enjoy myself.

It also gives me a chance to dig deep into my private wine cellar to match a good bottle with my cooking.
