Zachary’s restaurant at the Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa in Knysna, has just received an impressive Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine, for its outstanding wine list.

Zachary’s is one of only three restaurants in Africa to have received this award, the other being 96 Winery Road in Stellenbosch and Balducci’s in Cape Town.

The American publication, is one of the most respected magazines in the international wine industry with a readership of about two million people. Their Restaurant Awards recognise restaurants whose wine lists “offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers”.

The Award of Excellence is for lists that offer a “well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Typically, these lists offer at least 100 selections.”

What’s even more impressive is that Zachary’s wine list consists 95% of South African wines.

Other recent awards
*US travel website, The Guide to the Good Life, (gayot.com) voted Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa as one of its Top 10 Family Resorts for 2007 in the world.

*Pezula Spa was named Best Resort Hotel Spa in South Africa by Les Nouvelles Esthétiques magazine, for the second time.

*The hotel has just been selected by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences as a recipient of its coveted International Five Star Diamond Award.

President of the academy, Joseph D Cinque said that Pezula was honoured for its “exceptional effort in enhancing the overall quality of commitment to hospitality, service and gastronomy”.
