Celebrated chef, Bruce Robertson, has teamed up with his foodie partner, Simoné Rossouw – former head chef of theshowroom restaurant to launch yet another “show-stopper”: theshowroom café on Long Street, Cape Town.
Robertson may have earned his reputation with fine dining cuisine at ‘one.waterfront’ and his much-awarded theshowroom restaurant, but theshowroom café sets itself apart with casual, local food and an unfussy menu.
“It’s the kind of menu that everyone can find a favourite on; simple a la carte, a specialized lunch buffet; the market place… a ‘little’ market in the middle of the café which serves traditional, daily-made specials. It’s uncomplicated, reliable and tasty food,” says Rossouw.
The passion and flair that has become Bruce’s hallmark is well matched in Simoné’s creative dedication to good, simple ingredients. One of SA’s budding female chefs, Rossouw sharpened her skills at Le Quartier Français with Margot Janse, before joining theshowroom restaurant. The award winning team was approached as a prospective tenant for the new Grand Daddy Hotel’s downstairs restaurant space on Long Street, and theshowroom restaurant’s baby brother was born…
The café breakfast starts at 06h30 with the Early Bird Special: ‘good-morning goodies’ include something for the healthy, the proudly South African, and let us not forget the traditional and good-old-faithful kippers. At midday, the ‘market place’-buffet of fresh salads, wholesome cooked meals and other tasty samples are laid out for convenient and satisfying business lunchers – with the option of a la carte menu which offers simple wraps and sarmies too. Evening dining options focus on plated dishes: the famous showroom caesar, the catch of the day, whole roast baby chicken and the exclusive ‘venison’ burger (proudly South African).
“I am very passionate about organic and local produce and I try to use it wherever I can. I never compromise on taste or on quality of ingredients”, says Simoné.
The Grand Daddy is the latest exciting and dynamic project from the owners of the award-winning Daddy Longlegs Art Hotel. The hotel is luxurious but playful and will offer the world’s first and only trailer park penthouse suites, where a fleet of seven revamped and art-infused airstream trailers will offer a bit of trailer park flash to travel-weary adventurers… with room service showroom style!
