Five waiters were arrested in Cape Town last week on charges of fraud, after using an electronic device to clone credit card particulars (known as skimming), reports www.dieburger.com.
Captain Dennis Adriao, a national police correspondent, has once again warned consumers not to let their credit cards out of their sight when paying at shops or restaurants.
The five waiters, who were operating in restaurants at Cape Town International Airport and in Sea Point respectively, are linked to fraud estimated at a total value of R40 000.
Meanwhile the trial of three Kauai waiters started in the Bellville magistrates court this week. Sapa reports that these suspects used a device to clone credit cards at branches of this popular juice bar in Constantia and Tygervalley.
