New on the Bloemfontein scene is Liedjiesbos, a contemporary ‘stoep café’ set in the owner’s home – an architecturally acclaimed building designed by architect Jan Smit resting in indigenous gardens, overlooking the Free State veld.

Expect to find platters at a reasonable R45, quiche for R30 (the vegetarian quiche of roasted butternut, pumpkin seeds, sultanas and peanuts is great) and delicious desserts. Try the chocolate Seville, a dark chocolate tart with orange marmalade for R30.
