The mornings of my summer holidays always began the same – crunchy toast with ouma’s homemade marmalade, and sneaky sips of coffee too caffeinated for a 10-year-old.
These days the sticky preserve has all but vanished off the contemporary breakfast table. I must be honest; I quite miss its tangy sweetness and bitter edge.
