I’ve been craving good sushi lately – something really special. I adore the new-style salmon sashimi at Willoughby’s, but this time I needed some great summer cocktails too.
I have only had the luxury of eating at Nobu at The One & Only in Cape Town once before. So on Saturday night, it was time to don my heels and jump into a taxi down to the Waterfront. After trying out two tables – I felt a bit like Goldilocks trying out the chairs – we opted for a spot at the bar after the manager whispered that they were the best seats in the house. We watched the chefs work their magic; opening tiny tubs of exotic ingredients, and decorating, slicing and patting rice and moulding fish onto gorgeous aqua and black plates.
Zesty granadilla and Japanese yuzu cocktails, and guava, goji berry and Japanese plum were a perfect match for a plate of mixed oysters topped with various concoctions, sweet morsels of crab tempura slightly dressed with a fiery ponzu dressing, crispy fried rice and salmon tartare and, finally, a plate of tuna sashimi and mackerel.
It truly was the best seat in the house. See you there.
Happy eating!
