Visiting Stellenbosch without the opportunity to pop into Nook leaves me more disappointed than the kid who was last in line to be picked. This place is that special.
Just over a year young, Nook Eatery is the brainchild of owners Luke and Jessica. Their inspiration for Nook was drawn from restaurants they visited whilst traveling abroad, especially café culture in cities like Melbourne, Sydney and Istanbul. Inside you will find a scene of candy floss coloured walls and furniture reminiscent of an old school ice-cream parlor. The original window shutters have been restored and perched on the wall to serve as newspaper and magazine racks. Interesting bits and pieces line the shelf on the opposite wall and quirky illustrations are displayed throughout.
The coffee is supplied by Conti Coffee and it’s really good. The menu offers a selection of homemade cakes and baked goods, sandwiches, a handful of wine options and lager from Jack Black. There is a separate daily buffet menu and Friday night is wood-fired pizza night! I would highly recommend the rare roast beef, wholegrain mustard, caramelised onion and tomato toasted sarmie – so tasty.
The musical selection is something worth mentioning. On my last visit to Nook I listened to Phoenix, Coldplay, Ray Charles and Edith Piaf to name but a few, in the space of less than an hour. It’s not often that people get a varied play list so right. In my opinion, they have hit the nail on the head.
