'You will be hungry soon, order take-out now' was the message that fell out of my fortune cookie last night. With plenty of New Year’s resolutions floating about, I thought it was best to leave it at that. But I’m sure there’s one somewhere that instructs you to 'Eat more Chinese', and I certainly will after discovering a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant called Bamboo, just off Long Street in Cape Town.
There’s nothing really special or different on the menu, it’s just good, honest Chinese food that’s cooked really well and isn’t too oily (resolution 101 – eat more healthily this year).
Succulent sweet-and-sour pork in a light and crispy batter smothered in a tangy sauce. Melt-in-the-mouth dumplings with a chilli, ginger and soya dipping sauce so fresh and zingy we doused the stir-fried Asian greens with it, too. The prawns were plump and sweet, and tossed with special fried rice. We ate everything, no takeaways this time, but I see them in my future very soon!
All the best eating for 2011!
