We stopped in Dullstroom for an early dinner and specifically went in search of a pub that would serve us the kind of food you want when hungry and it’s cold and rainy. The service is variable starting with a manager or some such who took us in from the door abandoning us half way to the table and flat our ignoring us to find the table, which turned out to be dirty and then not sending someone to the table with menus. We had to find our own wait staff and beg for menus and cleaning cloths. This was followed by a perfectly friendly waiter who was mostly around and handled everything as he should.
The food arrived in a reasonable space of time and the first pizza that we had ordered with drinks for our toddler was covered in cheese and toppings and steaming hot. It was also R60 and huge so really should be an actual children’s size and appropriately priced. While on the topic of overpriced; a single coke cost R30!
When our mains arrived my pie was burned around the edges but since it was big I pulled the burned pieces off. Unfortunately, it turned out the pastry was completely raw under this. And the soup bowl that this was served in was half full of grey meat in water. There were no vegetables to be seen. This is hands down the worst pie I have ever seen. For goodness sake, google a recipe and it will be better than this disaster just by virtue of the fact that it has some ingredients.
I sent it back and the over sized, overpriced children’s pizza saved my stomach and the restaurant from dealing with a (h)angry customer.
The waiter did take the pie back and took it off my bill as I asked without comment but no apology, no management to be seen, no action as far as I can tell.
If you really must, eat a pizza and keep your standards low. If you don’t mind sticky tables and just want a beer you’ll be ok. But there are also far better restaurants in Dullstroom.
