On Wednesday, the 1st of June the 2011 winners of the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show were announced. Recognising South Africa’s top wines and winemakers, the wine show was judged by ten eminent vinophiles including Michael Fridjhon (who also acted as show chairman), France’s Thierry Desseauve, Britain’s Neil Martin and Hong Kong’s Debra Meiburg.
The Fairbairn Capital Trophy for the Most Successful Producer went to Spier Private Cellar. The Old Mutual Trophies for best white and red wines went to Paul Cluver’s 2009 Chardonnay and Thelema’s 2007 Shiraz respectively. The Old Mutual Trophy for Discovery of the Show went to Nuy’s 2005 White Muskadel. Download the complete list of winners here.
Good news for Joe Public is that The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2011’s winning tipples will be up for the sampling at public tastings held in Cape Town on the 9th of June and Johannesburg on the 10th.
