Swanky restaurant, Kream, is the place in Pretoria to head for posh nosh in a stylish setting. With such sleek and elegant design, it’s no surprise that it has been nominated for a Boschendal Style Award, as part of the Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards.
The mood: Sophisticated yet comfortable, Kream offers a true fine dining experience. Glass and silver globes, dropped from the high ceilings, illuminate the room while a white staircase leads up to a dining area. Elements of water, fire and light add to the sense of drama.
The designer: Though the restaurant is relatively large and the seating numbers high, Chris Pattachidis of Pattachidis Architects worked to create intimacy by dividing the space into seven different areas. Choose from slick seating or a cosy enclave at the bar, outside tables on the terrace, a dramatic main dining space, a mezzanine space, the function room and the courtyard. “You experience it differently every time, depending on where you are sitting,” says Chris.
The details: The furniture by Domas, glassware by Luigi Bormioli and cutlery from Forum Countess all contribute to an aura of luxury. Artwork by South African artist Catherine Christie and sculptures by Angus Taylor and Sybrand Wiechers feature throughout.
The food: Offering options like fillet camembert, gorgonzola mash, and mushroom and prawn basmati, Kream’s food is hearty with an up-market finish.
Does Kream have what it takes to win the Boschendal Style Award at the Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards?
