Do you have a favourite bakery, a local food blog that you read daily, a chorizo you adore, or a cheese for which you’d sell an elderly relative? Our sister brand, Eat In www.eat-in.co.za, is recognising these small producers and outlets that provide fabulous local produce with the annual Eat In DStv Food Network Produce Awards.

Nominations for the 2012 awards are now open. There are eleven awards in total, including the honours for best bakery, butchery and grocery, one for the best organic producer, a South African Heritage Award, and an award for the best new product. This year, Eat In is also adding an award for the best local food blog, in recognition of the work bloggers do to help grow the local food industry.

Anyone in South Africa can submit a nomination – and you’re welcome to nominate yourself. Nominations close on Friday 25 November 2011, and the winners will be announced in March 2012. To submit a nomination, click here.
