It started in Australia in 2003, when two friends made a gentleman’s agreement to see who could grow the best moustache. After the first Movember, the friends decided to run with it, and make something out of it. “Together we all agreed to make this for men's health and to start raising money for our mo growing efforts,” explains co-founder Travis Garone.
Today, Movember has spread as far afield as Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Ireland, New Zealand, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic and South Africa, raising money and awareness for men’s health issues from prostate cancer to depression.
This Movember, the Movember team have chosen Cape Town hotspot &Union along with Barnet Fair at St Stephens Church to kick off festivities. Pop in tomorrow for something rather unusual: breakfast or dinner paired with a shave.
On Tuesday, between 7 am and 9 am, head to Barnet Fair for your shave, hot towel and after products, for R80, and then step outside into &Union for a coffee and croissant, for R35.
From 4pm to 7pm, meanwhile, you can get the full shave experience for R80, and a glass of wine or beer and main meal for R95.
