Grant Nash’s favourite restaurants for vegans

Former 5fm DJ and advocate for vegan living, Grant Nash is a master at finding ethical food in Gauteng. We caught up with him to find out where he goes for pizza, cheap dinners and vegan-friendly coffee.

Vegetarian, or interested in leading a plant-based lifestyle, even just once a week? Check out Grant’s website, www.grantnash.co.za. He’ll also be launching a new series of video blogs called Veg-It soon, telling his veggie story.

My favourite place for…

Pizza
Greenside Café, for their 'bacon’ style pizza.

Asian food
Cheap: Phat Panda for BBQ tofu. More expensive: So Yum or The Red Chamber in Hyde Park.

Coffee
Vida e caffe; they always have the soy on hand.

Weekday breakfast
Mugg and Bean.

A business lunch
tashas in Morningside.

Lunch with the family
Fresh Earth in Emmerentia (on Saturdays, because they are closed on a Sunday).

Romantic dinner
Signal Restaurant at The Cape Grace hotel in Cape Town. They do an amazing vegan tasting board.

A great view
Sophea Gallery & Tibetan Teahouse in Simonstown, especially when the Whales swim by to say hi.

End-of-the-month cheap, weekday dinner
Kung Fu Kitchen for sweet and sour veggie chicken-style strips.

Market-style shopping
Arts on Main. They still do the best veggie hot dogs in town.
