Owner's description

Situated on the Northern slope of Table Mountain and nestled behind the famous Rhodes Memorial, lies this unique destination restaurant and tea garden. This vantage point not only allows a panoramic view of the Cape Flats to the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountain ranges but is one of the few vantage points where both the Atlantic and Indian oceans can be seen.

Bernard and Jessica Lyon, the new proprietors, and formerly from La Med, Clifton and the Baxter Restaurant, together boast a total of 85 yrs hospitality experience. They invite you to join them for a memorable experience, feeding mind, body and soul in this idyllic setting.

Their family restaurant caters for locals and tourists alike, offering a variety of cuisine to suit all tastes, offering special rates for children under 10 years of age. This charming cottage restaurant has recently been renovated and the gardens landscaped to include a playground with swings, slides, jungle gym and a kiddies sand pit.

The menu changes seasonally with a strong al fresco influence in the summer. Winter boasts a roaring log fire, Gluhwein and wholesome specialities such as Ostrich Bobotie, Cape Malay style curries and Lamb Bredies, prepared with only the freshest of ingredients. The on-site home-style bakery is renowned for delicious cakes and desserts.
There is ample free and secure parking and several mountain walks start or finish here.

Tried to go there today, but they said they were permanently closed. Some nonsense about blowing up in a mountain fire. Literally wouldn't even let us in. All I wanted was pork chops, extra crispy. Their staff should have all been fired. 0/10
Generous portions with a lovely setting. If you do not set your expectations too high you will enjoy this spot. Old fashioned menu with food plated "Spur style". I had the flapjacks with banana, bacon and syrup, the flapjacks was definitely not home made and the dish was drenched in syrup but I did not expect a carefully executed meal. I wish they could give this place a facelift, it has so much potential.

Sorely dissapointed. Boring menu, expensive for daytime, only 2 tables on a spring day, should be full with their stunning position, saddens me that Cape Town allows a tourist destination to offer anything but greatness.

I recently ate at Rhodes Memorial Restaurant. Ive been there before and never had a problem, however this time the service was slow, the food at our table of 4 arrived at different times (even parts of the same meal, for the same person) and part of my chicken was raw in the middle. When I pointed this out, the waiter said that he was sorry and then proceeded to take over 20 minutes (including us having to ask another waiter) to get us our bill.
