I had my 40th lunch at Paputzi's, and Ria (the owner) made it very special. The food was amazing and light, en the service was perfect. I love the little gift shop in the front as well, with the display of local novelties.
Nice discovery in Linden, I liked the friendly and prompt service, the garden is beautiful and quiet and I didn't mind the chicken and trhe pigeons roaming between my legs. I ordered the Moroccan lamb Tagine special, it was tasty and large portion, strangely served with brown rice (why not couscous?), a bit overpriced though.
What an enchanting setting, fairy lights, twisted trees and lush garden. Our waiter was a gem, well hearsed on the specials and very accommodating. The food is overpriced, with little value for money - pork stir fry that had little substance or flavour apart from oesophagi burning saltiness, oily Oxtail, stodgy trammezini's with minimal filling, overpriced/overrated salad at R140. Overpriced wine and drinks. The kicker of the day for a large table was trying to split a non itemised bill. Sadly our table of 10 will not be recommending this beautiful venue to anyone.
I have been a patron of Paputzis for over 5 years & have taken numerous friends & family members there for breakfasts, brunches & lunches and have never been disappointed.. The ambience is great, the service extremely friendly & the food delicious. It is my favourite coffee shop/lunch venue in Jhb. Ria, the owner, is always on hand with a warm welcome & a friendly chat to patrons. Pigeons are all over Jhb. ~ my gdn is full of them & there's no escaping them ~along with chickens, they are part of the feathered charm of Paputzis. Whatever the season, Paputzis is the place to be!
The outdoor area has been covered with extensive canopies, but there are just too many pigeons on the canopies and around the tables. The pigeon poo on the canopies makes one question the hygiene?
The prices of the "specials" are way too high for the quality of the food. Nasi Goreng is not Nasi Goreng at all, but a spicy, creamy rice dish.
When visiting in a group, the waiter just simply puts more bottles of wine on the table, without asking anyone if we want more, and the diners just think that someone else has ordered them adding to the bill.
Good only for light meals, which are good in general, inside the restaurant.
