The Food

Prosopa’s extensive menu allows it to cater to different kinds of gatherings: festive, corporate or intimate, in any season. The food explores Mediterranean and Greek heritage while showcasing South Africa’s fresh produce. The sophistication of the food, the explorative approach and its freshness have kept Prosopa a consistent favourite for over 12 years and counting.

Throughout the menu are pointers to the restaurant’s signature dishes and chef Dino Fagas’s favourites, guiding you to some of the best dishes in the house. There are plenty of options for starters that can be mixed and matched as shared mezes. The crisp fried brinjals come highly recommended, as do the white fish goujons, which are simple, fresh and elegant. The lamb ribs are rich in flavour from the addition of ouzo, honey and thyme. You can have a shared feast by ordering the meze and vegetarian platters.

For mains, the chef guides you with fun little notes and tips on wine pairings, which go a long way towards helping you choose. The different textures, techniques and ingredients in the lamb kleftiko all sing in unison to make it a hit. The succulent Klein Karoo ostrich fillet is a beautiful dish elevated by a honey, soy and star anise reduction, with spiced lentils. There are ample choices for pasta, chicken and seafood, too. For dessert, go for the popular baklava and chocolate mousse, or the indulgent baked cheesecake.

Drinks

The restaurant’s award-winning wine list is an extensive curated mix of local and imported bottles, with a few offered by glass. This includes small selections of port and fortified wine. There are also cocktails, spirits, single-malt whiskies and craft beers to be enjoyed. The cherry on top is a selection of dessert wines that complement sweet treats.

Service

Excellent service with attentive (but not overbearing) waiters who are knowledgeable about the food and what they’re serving.

Ambience

Prosopa has a warm, relaxed and inviting vibe. The white tablecloths hint at an elevated dining experience for celebratory or intimate occasions, and   fireplace in the middle of the restaurant is a welcome touch for winter. There are private booths for extra-special events. Prosopa hosts monthly wine-pairing evenings.
