When family members of the original Alfie (of Alfie’s fame) decided to extend the brand and open a proper pizzeria centered around a glorious wood-burning oven, fans had high expectations. And Eat Out critic Alida Ryder is glad to report that every expectation is met at Alfie’s Pizzeria.

Food

The menu at Alfie’s Pizzeria is relatively small, focusing mostly on pizza. A few starters and light meals appear, but it’s very clear you’re in a place that celebrates the classic pie when you first set foot inside.

Choose between focaccia, pizze bianche (pizzas with a tomato-free base), calzone and pizze rosse (classic tomato-based pizzas). The patate e cipolla is a knockout with its soft potato, mozzarella and sweet onion topping. If you’re after something meaty, the norcina is topped with mozzarella, mushrooms and Alfie’s own homemade Italian pork sausage. The capricciosa is another fan-favourite, and comes topped with mozzarella, mushrooms, cooked ham, artichokes, kalamata olives and a soft egg. It’s simple perfection.

If you’re not in the mood for pizza, give their crunchy, Italian calamari a go – it comes served in cute brown paper cones – or share their incredible crescentine con affettati misti e formaggi freschi. If you think that sounds like a mouthful, wait until it’s brought to your table. A generous antipasti platter of deep-fried dough pillows, a selection of Italian cold cuts, fresh cheeses and pickles, this is the perfect sharing food, making for a very jovial start to your meal. To finish, try the perfect panna cotta or tiramisu.

Drinks

Alfie’s Pizzeria doesn’t yet have its liquor licence, but guests are encouraged to bring their own. They sell bottled water and various soft drinks as well as excellent coffee.

Service

The staff are all very knowledgeable about the menu, and are great sources of information and inspiration, especially when you don’t know what to order. Friendly and attentive but not pushy, the team handles a very busy restaurant incredibly well, making sure everybody is taken care of.

Ambience

Trendy, modern and vibey are all words you could use to describe the pizzeria. The space itself is very plain, clean and modern with beautiful light fixtures. Even when you’re inside the restaurant, it feels like you’re dining alfresco due to the beautiful doors that open all around the restaurant and lead onto the decks outside.
