Chef PJ Vadas’s new project, The Hoghouse Barbeque, will open for visitors on Monday 17 August. The craft beer brewery and restaurant is situated in Ndabeni, Cape Town.
PJ’s food will be simple, with unpretentious dishes that are all about harnessing the flavour of good quality ingredients. The experimental menu will centre on the ‘low and slow’ style of cooking – more Texan barbeque than South African braai. You can expect succulent smoked brisket, barbecue plates and loads of meltingly tender pork dishes. The food will be locally and ethically sourced from environmentally supportive suppliers. There will also be a few vegetarian dishes on offer.
The Hoghouse Barbecue will have a cosy and relaxed atmosphere – and it’s child-friendly, so there’s no need to leave the kids at home. They’re still waiting for the liquor licence, but you can BYO for now. The Hoghouse Barbeque will be open Monday to Friday from 5pm until late, with the kitchen closing at 9pm. The sister restaurant at Spier in Stellenbosch, Hoghouse Bakery & Café, will be opening in October. Watch this space.
