Much-loved late-night spot NY Slice Pizza will open its second branch on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard within the next week. The original pizza hatch, which opened on Kloof Street in Gardens in 2013, has since garnered quite a following of hungry hipsters and night owls. Now Sea Point dwellers will be able to get their hands on a slice of pie at the new spot, which opens Tuesday 26 April.

Located on a quiet corner on Sea Point’s Main Road near Pick ’n Pay, the new space has already donned its signature red-and-white NY Slice Pizza awning and sign, ready to lure pizza lovers off the sidewalks. Like its Kloof Street sibling, the hatch will also boast a hefty authentic pizza oven flown in from Manhattan.

Owner Mark Francis spent some time learning the art of pizza making under Don Federico in Manhattan and has since perfected his recipe using satisfying topping combinations. You’ll find all the classic combos here, including the popular Manhattan with whole-milk mozzarella, the original tomato-sauce recipe and fresh basil. Other options include a real New York pepperoni pie, the Soho, with roasted peppers and caramelised onions, and the Buffalo chicken, with sauce and peppadews.

The New-York-style pizzas are larger than your average Italian favourites, coming in at 50cm for a whole pie (perfect for families or large groups of friends). But the good news is that they also serve them by the slice for a cheesy bite for customers walking the Sea Point promenade.
