A brand new market is set to hit Cape Town’s foodie scene, with an offering that will showcase some of the city’s favourite eateries, vendors and food trucks. The Newlands Spring Market, which will become the Southern Suburbs’ newest Sunday market, will have its first market day on 8 October at The Oval in Newlands.
The market, which comes from the team behind InstaEats, will focus on well-known brands, restaurants and food vendors from across the Mother City. Expect to see burgers from IYO, poké bowls from The Poké Co., vegan eats from Sea Point’s Scheckter’s Raw and ice-cream treats from N2 Ice Cream. Other popular vendors will include Woodstock Bakery, Culture Club Cheese, and Tessa’s Bakery. If you’re a fan of the street food movement, you’ll be satisfied by food trucks like Hemazing and Tailgate Foods that will be parked at the venue.
As for refreshments, the Newlands Spring Brewing Co. bar will be stocked with their entire range of craft beers. Some spring cocktails will be on offer, as well as a wine bar with Catch of the Day wine on tap, and a specially curated spirits menu featuring Botanist Gin, Mount Gay Rum and Cointreau.
The market will also offer live music and a free play area for the little ones.
The Newlands Spring Market opens Sunday 8 October from 9am to 3pm.
We went to the first market on the 8th and while the food concepts look great the queues were incredibly long and well before the end of the event many of the food stands had sold / run out of all stock . After 2 hours we had only managed to get some of the last pizza being made (before they ran out of toppings and could only make margheritas). Very disappointing.
