The dessert mash-up trend is clearly still alive and well in Cape Town, if Bootlegger’s latest sweet creation is anything to go by. The icessant (a croissant filled with ice cream) is now available at the new Bootlegger Coffee and Ice Cream Parlour at Surfer’s Corner in Muizenburg – and we’re not angry about it.
First, the golden, flaky pastry takes the form of an ice-cream cone. Buttery and still slightly warm, the vessel is filled with home-churned, non-aerated double-cream vanilla soft serve. It’s topped with a drizzle of Bar-One chocolate sauce and chocolate dust, naturally, and then topped off with a Flake. Move aside, Nutella on a croissant. The icessant is probably the best breakfast food we’ve ever laid eyes on.
If mixing your pastries with ice cream is not your thing, the new parlour is also serving chocolate-lined waffle cones filled with ice cream and finished off with toppings like salted-caramel popcorn dust, dark chocolate and white chocolate. Rumour has it that Bootlegger is also busy concocting some mean soda floats.
Gone to the beach, be right back.
