Bertus Basson to open new restaurant in Elgin

Known for its production of exceptional wines, Paul Clüver Family Wines will soon be home to BLOEM, a new restaurant concept by celebrated chef Bertus Basson, with chef Carla Burger heading up the kitchen.

“The name pays homage to the farm’s blossoming fruit orchards, and you will notice the apple blossom in our logo,” highlights Bertus.  

Joining as a business partner, chef and restaurateur, Carla has worked at iconic Stellenbosch restaurants, such as Overture, and Eat Out star restaurants Eike, Spek & Bone, and most recently, CHORUS as Sous Chef alongside Marcus Gericke.  

As a talented chef with over six years of experience, Carla will bring her passion for seasonal, produce-driven cuisine and her flair for desserts as a skilled pastry chef to BLOEM to curate a one-of-a-kind dining experience. 

Although the full details of the menu are yet to be revealed, guests will be able to tuck into some wholesome breakfast options, along with sharing plates for lunch. Catering to families, the restaurant will also feature a children’s play area. 

The restaurant will officially open its doors on 22 October and will be open for breakfast and lunch from Tuesday to Saturday.  

Wine lovers will be thrilled to know that the wine list will feature the full range of Paul Clüver wines, as well as a number of selected Elgin wine producers. 

“The project has been a long time in the making, and to be able to share an official opening date with you is a little surreal,” says Bertus.
