When your after-work drinks or Saturday cocktails run a little late and the 10pm hunger strikes, it’s great to know that you can find delicious after-hours grub in Cape Town to soak it all up. We’ve hunted down five spots in the Mother City for those late-night munchies.

Arcade (City Bowl)

This chilled ‘resto-bar’ on the top end of Bree Street is ideal for vibey late-night dinners. The kitchen closes at 11pm with a menu that’s perfect for those booze-filled evenings. Expect food like chicken pregos and cheesy pizzas, gourmet burgers and salads. On the drinks side of things, the bar serves classic and new cocktails, shots and SAB beer on tap.

Franky’s Diner (Sea Point)

This authentic 1950s-style diner is open 24 hours a day. Perch in one of the red vinyl booth and linger over dishes like the 12-inch cheese ’n chilli dog served with fries, onion rings and coleslaw or the infamous Chubby Burger, which consists of six beef patties, bacon, cheese, jalapeños, fries, onion rings and coleslaw.

Hudson’s The Burger Joint (Claremont, Gardens, Green Point and Stellenbosch)

This popular burger spot serves its glorious patties until 11pm (including takeaways). Tuck into a salty bacon-jam burger with cheddar cheese, bacon jam and dusted onions, or a simple cheeseburger with tomato relish and cheddar. Not in the mood for a burger? Try one of the cheesy pizzas, soft flour tacos or an order of indulgently cheesy disco fries. Hudson’s also offers takeaways for those late night pick-me-ups.

NY Slice (Gardens and Sea Point)

Sometimes there’s nothing better than a slice of cheesy pizza after a boozy night out. Luckily for you, this pizza hatch keeps slicing its New York-style pizza pies late on Friday and Saturday nights until 2am. You’ll find all the classic combos here, including the popular Manhattan with whole-milk mozzarella, the original tomato-sauce recipe and fresh basil. Other options include a real New York pepperoni pie, the Soho, with roasted peppers and caramelised onions, and the Buffalo chicken, with sauce and peppadews. Too lazy to go out? They also offer free delivery until 11pm daily.

Roxy’s (Gardens)

After you’ve taken advantage of the two-for-one beers from 12am to 2am, you can rest assured that your late-night munchies will be taken care of at this buzzing spot. The kitchen closes at 2am, which means that party goers can still order a kilo of bacon and caramel wings, or hot jalapeños for R99. There’s also taco Tuesdays, nachos, mac-n-cheese balls and many other beer-soaking after-hour snacks.
