Bree Street’s dedicated bacon bar plates up a not-so-average BLT sandwich. This relaxed eatery offers a host of breakfast favourites. For an ultra-decadent and completely extravagant start to the day, order their chocolate-hazelnut French toast with luscious condensed-milk ice cream (R60).

Parc (Glenwood, Durban)

A popular breakfast and brunch spot with locals, this down-to-earth café serves a golden and sweet banana-bread French toast with a crunchy sprinkling of toasted cashews, crispy bacon, fresh banana and a drizzle of honey (R65).

These masters of baked goods serve beautiful breakfasts and lunches. Their version of eggy bread is anything but ordinary – think brioche French toast topped with a tangy sour cream and honey-stewed dried fruit (R69).

This buzzing brunch spot plates up a popular take on the breakfast treat. The classic pain perdu is comprised of brioche French toast, bright berries, mascarpone cheese and a delicate crème anglaise (R65). Add crispy bacon for an extra R24.
