Following a year of exciting collaborations and pop-ups, Chef Vusi Ndlovu and restaurateur Absie Pantshwa’s EDGE brand has found a summer residence at VUE Shortmarket – a relatively new inner-city bar and restaurant.  

“Vusi and Absie’s energy and creative flair are a natural fit for VUE,” says Aidan Mautschke, co-owner of VUE Shortmarket. “We look forward to them bringing their one-of-a-kind African-inspired dining experience to our space.” 

The pop-up will see the duo bring their unique expression of Africa to the rooftop area, serving up a selection of EDGE favourites, along with a host of dishes developed for the season. As always, the focus is firmly on cooking the very best of Africa’s ingredients over fire and presenting them through a contemporary lens of both food and culture, using modern techniques and a minimalist style. The menu will take shape in two forms: a five-course tasting menu and a selection of small plates for those looking for a shorter, more informal experience.

“I think we’ve really created something special and perhaps a bit different from what people might expect at our residency at VUE,” comments Chef Vusi. “I’m looking forward to introducing our new small-plate offering, alongside our tasting menu. It’s allowed us to play a bit more, creating something slightly more casual as we continue to explore the rich flavours and stories of our beautiful, vast continent.” 

Accompanying the food will be a drinks menu featuring South African wines, as well as a selection of cocktails designed by Vusi alongside the VUE team – which will naturally be influenced by Africa’s ingredients, flavours and cooking techniques. 

“I’m super excited about working alongside the cocktail team,” adds Vusi. “I think cocktails allow for a really great opportunity to introduce diners to different African ingredients and how they can be enjoyed.” 

Leading the front-of-house team, the dynamic Absie will ensure that the experience, while always elevated, remains relaxed and welcoming. 

EDGE X VUE will run from 5 December 2024 to the end of April 2025.
