Longtime Joburg foodies, this news might be of particular interest to you. Luca Borella, of Luca’s fame, has announced his move to the Western Cape.

Taking over the restaurant at Marras Wines in Riebeek West, Luca is bringing his iconic Italian food to the Swartland. This comes as bittersweet news, as his beloved Joburg establishment closes shop, and he and his family make the permanent move. However, Joburg’s loss is the Western Cape’s gain, and the collaboration between Luca and Marras Wines is sure to be a match made in heaven.

For those unfamiliar with Luca, he was the driving force behind his synonymous Joburg restaurant for over 30 years. His pizzas, pastas and salads (if you know, you know!) held legendary status, as did Luca himself, as he ran the floor of his busy restaurant every day. Having said goodbye to his Joburg space, he’s now joining forces with the team at Marras Wines, where he’s taking over the restaurant space.

Luca’s @Marras will feature Luca’s signature Italian cooking, incorporating the best seasonal ingredients he can source. While the menu is in a slow transitioning phase, Luca assured us that the menu will include some of his greatest hits from Joburg.

“⁠We will definitely introduce a few winners from Joburg,” Luca says. “Our famous salad dressing, some fresh pasta, fresh gnocchi, risotto and Osso Bucco in the colder months.” Watch this space to see what classics, and new dishes, make their way onto the menu. And to see how they’re complemented by Marras’ delicious wines, of course.

Currently the restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday for lunches and dinners from 11am to 9.30/10pm and Sunday for lunch from 11am to 4pm. Reservations can be made by contacting Luca on 083 601 8145 or contact Marras for information.
