Popular for providing relief from Cape Town’s torrid weather with its artisanal ice creams and sorbets, Moro Gelato has relocated from Woodstock to Long Street in Cape Town. Fans will be pleased, however, that the gelato is still made from scratch every week in Woodstock and will continue to be available at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market.

The new store is elegant and neat, with turquoise, pink and gold finishing, making it easy for visitors to forget they’re on one of the Mother City’s busiest streets. Moro Gelato’s flavours range from decadent Pure Pistachio to buttery Salty Caramel Popcorn, and every mouthful packs a flavourful punch – if you close your eyes, the Milk Tart flavour could absolutely be mistaken for the real thing, as is also the case with the Pecan Pie and Caffé options. The sorbets, made using seasonal fruit, are not to be overlooked, either.

At the moment you can order a scoop of pure mango, nectarine and raspberry – guilt-free, and so refreshing you won’t regret skipping the gelato. Not that you have to choose between the two. Moro offers three cup sizes: a small cup gives you a choice of up to two flavours; a medium, three flavours; and a large, four. The pricing ranges from R35 to R65, but there’s also the option of ordering a quirkily named ‘Couch Box’, giving you a full or half kilogram of gelato for your late-night series-watching binge. Sugar cones are also available with a choice of two flavours of gelato, and soon you’ll also be able to have your gelato atop a brioche bun.

Moro won’t be slowing down as the weather cools: Pay a visit later on in the year for a thick Italian hot chocolate, into which they suggest adding a dollop of gelato – if you’re feeling daring. Moro Gelato is open at 165 Long Street, Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 6pm.

A new special flavour of Moro Gelato is born, Pecan Pie! It’s made from scratch like all our gelato and sorbets, naturally creamy and delicious. Making gelato fresh every time , in small batches in our kitchen, allows us to avoid flavourants preservatives colourants or other industrial funny stuff. We are obsessed with quality , and the best way to obtain it is not to keep stock. Gelato is just like all other fresh food , it has nutrient values and flavours that perish with time. So here comes the downside, not all our flavours are always available. Pecan Pie is one of them so make sure to come and taste it this Saturday at the @ozcfarm market in Granger Bay from 9:00 till 14:00
