Fusion is by far one of the best places to go eat in Durban. Their menu is constantly changing so as to keep things interesting, and the quality of the food is always sublime. From Mexican Risotto to the most delicate Gnocchi and the best chocolate fondant around, it really is one of the few must go to restaurants in Durban.
Prices are also very competitive, ranging from R80-R120 for a main, and the wine list is very well stocked.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Durban. The food is always fantastic, as is the service. Friendly and unpretentious atmosphere. Small and intimate. Wonderful new flavours to try and a well selected and complete wine list.

This is a place that is easy to like and a breath of fresh air. Both the chefs are clearly playing around with new techniques and different flavors in a manner that is not trying to bring you the typical curry or prego role. What I like so much is a clear passion and curiosity for putting interesting flavors in front of its patrons. I find there are typically two types of places that do this type of fusion cooking. Type one are the really, really expensive places (e.g. El Bulli or Alinea), the others are really, really gimmicky (see the 100th foam dish I get in Jburg) but dont understand why the technique exists. What I love about this place is that is avoids both and hits a nice middle ground. It has an almost beach-cafe vibe (and reasonable prices), with flavors far more sophisticated than you would expect. This is a place to explore new tastes and different textures - we need more of this in our lives. I tried five different dishes (including the dishwasher steak and liquid nitrogen ice cream) and they were mostly hits. Really solid flavors and execution. The wine selection is also clearly nurtured, with the chefs working hard to bring your more than the typical wine choices. That being said, they are not perfect. The meat was slightly overdone for one dish, one of the accompaniments of a main dish was too oily and the staff seemed a little overwhelmed (one person for the entire room). But, given the prices, the earnestness of the staff and atmosphere...most of these minor transgressions are very easily forgiven. As you can probably tell, this place gives me a smile. It is a welcome respite from the usual laminated menus I see in most restaurants. I want to go back and I want to bring my friends. It is a fun experience and I look forward to trying some of the other menu items next time.

One of the best foodie places in Durban. Global, fresh ingredients, modern style and a twist of molecular gastronomy. Fillet cooked in a dishwasher, pretzels poached in drain cleaner, oysters in a blue Asian soup that changes colour while you eat and, of course, their famous tableside-presented liquid nitrogen ice cream. The service is amazing and friendly. The chefs Shaun and Caz engage their customers like long lost friends at the table. Incredibly welcoming. Atmosphere is relaxed and yet elegant - almost a home away from home. Most memorable and highly recommended.
