Top 5 in Cape Town no doubt. My 2nd visit here on as many months entertaining a friend from Durban. As I thought the entrance into the "secret garden" was immediately set the scene and tone for a memorable evening. Sublime service for our early evening time slot received by Calvin. Super attentive and polite... Full marks. Great wine selection which paired beautifully with all servings. Firm favorites were the starter Arancini balls, and truffle parmesan polenta baked chips. My chalmar sirloin 300g with truffle mushrooms and chips went down like a homesick mole. Others loved the chicken livers mopped down with amazing bread. The ambience inside the rooms never ceases to amaze, but and a very avant-garde crowd are also easy on the eye! Severely underrated on this website.
Loved the interior. Service was excellent!
The booking service was excellent and after arriving I drank in the wonderful ambience but sadly the food and service fell short. The winelist is unimpressive with no 2018 whites available yet and portions are half of what I remember... Pasta was stuck together in thick gooey masses and really dry, my friend's Osu Buko was tough as nails and she had a hard time cutting it with a steak knife. Portion was also doubtful. Will go back for the atmosphere but not the food or service.
Great food, wine recommendations and amazing service
The food was average to good. However, the waiter, in front of my 3 guests, shamelessly (and loudly) asked for an additional 3% tip on a R2,000 bill, despite his slow and underwhelming service throughout the evening. I have never seen such openly tacky service from a waiter at this sort of restaurant and will never visit again. A restaurant that charges premioum prices, but hires waitstaff who cannot comprehend the basics of good service (the customer experience is everything), shouldn't deserve your patronage. The waiter in question was white, shoulder-length hair, and male. Hopefully the restaurant can address this as it seemed an otherwise good spot.
