Roughly translated as legendary, Mitico offers authentic Italian fare in a relaxed, comfortable environment. Pizza, pasta and vino are the order of the day. The pizzas are paper thin, made according to a secret family recipe, and cooked in a wood-fired oven. Sit inside and watch the pizzas being crafted or take a seat outside beneath the tree, and take in the bustle of Kloof Street.

Was there about a year ago... My sister is a huge pizza lover so I'm a bit picky when it comes to choosing the right pizza restaurant for her. The dough must be of a certain consistency, the thinner bases/crusts definitely taking preference over the thicker ones. This was a place that finally did it right- crispy base, just the right amount of toppings and the pizza does not get soggy-a pet hate. My sister ordered the Meditarraneo - Avo, Bacon and Feta. It didn't disappoint and reminded her of the pizzas we had in Italy. I had the Mediterranean Antipasti platter which was also great (mini caprese, charcuterie and grilled veggies)
The staff was friendly and the owner came to check if everything was perfect. A very happy place.
Will definitely go back.

This has been my go-to Italian spot for the last two years. Whether it's been a sit-down affair or a quick take-away (every Sunday *not ashamed*), I can hands-down say Mitico does the best pizza in Cape Town - a most coveted title that I think they most definitely deserve. Their pastas are equally as good, sticking to familiar and traditional dishes. The Penne Salmone is 5-star as is their Puttanesca. Pizza-wise and I don't have a favourite - they're all delicious! Lately I've been liking the Tonno (tuna & onion), otherwise I mix it up by adding whatever ingredients I am feeling for to a delicious, crisp and beautifully cheesy Margherita. Oh and if you consider yourself the Calzone King, try their Quattro Stagioni Calzone (this must be specified when ordering) - yum! Their wine list is varied and really well-priced in comparison to other city bowl restaurants.
The only thing to fault this lovely Pizzeria is the "vibe". The atmosphere could pick up a little in terms of music and lighting, but this is not the be all and end all. The staff are just amazing and I can't fault one thing or mention one issue I've ever had there. You're always greeted with a huge smile as if you're part of their little Italian family. This underrated and understated eatery is often overlooked among the few really great Italian offerings in Cape Town and certainly deserves a little more hype. I hope they get it as summer rolls in.

The pasta was off the hook. Best I've eaten. Full flavoured and rich. Friendly waiting staff with a great knowledge and passionate about their menu made the night. Felt the setting would be a bit too intimate at first with the tables placed closed together. However, this turned out to add to the great, comfortable and warm ambiance. Perfect for stormy winter days.

This was a fantastic place to eat! Italian in almost every sense of the word. And I say almost because it's based in Kloof Street, Cape Town, not Italy itself :) The food is superb, flavours bursting in your mouth making you want to eat beyond your stomach limitations. The richness of their dishes makes you swoon from the very first bite. And must try if you haven't already.
