Owner of the first of an upcoming franchise, Theo says he took advantage of a gap in the market. It’s all about quality and a menu that serves 90% fish, as well as a comprehensive sushi selection. This establishment serves all the basics, very simply and freshly prepared. This is a fish lover’s delight, with options like line fish, kingklip, sole and hake, as well as combos like hake and calamari or prawns, ribs and prawns, or sole, calamari and prawns. The interior is cheery in a melange of black, white and red, and the very basic wine list has enough options to find favour all round.

Seafood sauce on Sole? "Pearls to Swine" - Only ever have lemon juice, or you may as well have a Big Mac.

I think the owners name is Thomas and soul is that part of you that goes to heaven when you die , sole on the other hand is a Fis Hoek speciality and should be tried with the seafood sauce - yummy!

Always good to go there. Their service is good and the battered hake is amazing.

We used to be regular clients at Famous Fishhoek until today. Had an appointment for 6 for Mother's Day, but got a phone call 20 minutes before we were due to arrive there to inform us that the restaurant will be closed for the day due to staff problems. They will never see us again!

Last night I gave Famous Fishhoek, Lynnwood Bridge a second chance. Big mistake. On my prior visit the Kingklip I ordered had been decimated by over-cooking; so much so that even a steak knife could not cut it. In contrast, the chips were cold inside. The service staff and manager were unconcerned, preferring to stand around chatting with their backs to patrons rather than dealing with the incident and I left a very under-satisfied patron. Conceding that sometimes these things do happen, I gave Famous Fishhoek another try, but last night's service just reconfirmed lessons from my initial experience. We ordered sushi and the waiter went directly from our table to the entrance a few steps away, standing and chatting like he was on holiday. My partner called him over to confirm that he had placed our order as he still held the slip of paper he'd written our order on and had not been to the computer to enter the order. He assured us the order was in and we let it go. One hour later, after multiple visits from waiter and a number of different staff members saying '2 minutes, 2 minutes, it's the kitchen's fault', we chose to cancel the order and took our business to the restaurant next door (Colcacchio's, where we were served our food within 15 minutes). The waiter still had the cheek to blame the kitchen when I settled the wine bill, which is rich coming from the person who hadn't even bothered to bring bread to our table during the hour we had waited. Perhaps this restaurant needs a little owner-management as the current staff are definitely not delivering to standard. A cliche' seems appropriate her; 'Fool me once...' I have learnt my lessons and wait in anticipation for whatever restaurant will replace Famous Fishhoek in the hopefully not-too-distant future.
