Food:

Tashas has become a buzzword in Cape Town and is a popular hangout for the yummy mummies of the southern suburbs as well as avant garde entrepreneurs meeting over imported iced teas and signature dishes. Ingredients are always fresh and locally sourced, taking great care to create innovative dishes that taste as good as they look. Breakfast is a culinary delight from the classic to exotic dishes such as paizan, bacon rösti and ‘pimp my toast’ will have you ordering seconds. The lunch brigade is tempted by an array of salads, sandwiches, pastas and easy-eating dishes such as the salmon tartare, lamb cutlets, and the pricier steak tagliata and fresh salmon on lentils. Granitas are a specialty not to be missed.

Wine:

A limited but well thought-out wine list offering sparkling wine, red and white wines, as well as a range of artisan beers and imported ales.

Service:

The service can be a bit slow if the restaurant is at capacity; catching a waiter’s eye is a masterful skill. However, kitchen service is quick and food is delivered with aplomb.

Ambience:

The boutique café experience has been mastered on various levels, from the stylish décor down to the colours, making this the place to be seen. Rain or shines, tashas exudes an eclectic buzz of weathered charm and comfort.

And...:

Plan for an early start if you want to grab breakfast or be prepared to wait for a lunch table, especially on the weekends. (PU, October 2012)
