Owner's description

Established in 1995, The Grillhouse has received numerous awards, including Leisure Options’ Best Independent Steakhouse (for the last five years), and a Rossouw’s Restaurants rating of three stars (the highest accolade).

While The Grillhouse is famous for its steaks and ribs, the menu caters for everyone, with a range of salads, chicken, seafood and vegetarian dishes on offer (not to mention the legendary brownies and ice cream).
Art deco furnishings and subtle lighting, are reminiscent of the classic New York Grillhouse. The decor cleverly combines raw face brick, black leather seating and fine timber to create a warm earthy feel. The private dining rooms are ideal for business lunches or dinners and intimate celebrations. The extensive wine cellar is a firm favorite, with many sought after wines on offer.
This year The Grillhouse Rosebank is celebrating 21 years as an Award winning Steakhouse.

The Grillhouse is a sophisticated dining experience. All the cuts of meat are tasty. Personal favourite being the fillet. Efficient service and lots of wine!
Always a pleasure to see professionals at work. Quality product served with skill and flair.
This restaurant is everybody's favourite, as it is packed every evening. We had ordered seafood - my husband ordered the Queen Prawns and I've ordered the calamari main course. The side that I've ordered together with the calamari was a green salad and the brought me a full Greek salad with lots of Feta cheese and olives. My husband's prawns came with two sauces - a hot peri-peri sauce and a butter sauce. The food was very tasty, the service was good and we had a lovely evening. The complimentary bread was a certain winner - so crisp and tasty.
Steak Club did its annual pilgrimage to The Grillhouse last night with elements of sublime and elements of ridiculous. First off my steak was perfection! I always ask for my fillet rare, but warmed all the way through, and that is exactly what I got. I was an excellent cut of meat that melted in my mouth. The basting gave it a little bit of sweetness balanced perfectly by an equally good pepper sauce. Unfortunately the selection of beers was limited to the mass produced, full of chemicals, no flavour variety. They really do need to get with the times and offer a small selection of craft beers. Jack Black is so main-stream these days that they could at least offer that! The wine list is comprehensive, with a good selection albeit on the pricey side. The real low point was the coffee. If you don’t know how to make coffee, don’t serve it! At R23.95 for a small/medium cappuccino, it is the most expensive I've had (in SA) so one would expect a lot. It was undrinkable! Their first attempt, after I asked the waiter to ensure that the milk wasn’t burnt, was so hot that if had I taken a sip I would've incinerated my mouth and all that gorgeous flavour of the steak destroyed. I asked for them to try again and the second cup came back cold and weak. (I’m guessing they just tipped some of the coffee out and added cold milk to compensate.) That was sent back too! It’s very disappointing that I can make a cappuccino at home with a R3500 machine that’s 12 years old at a cost of R5 that’s superior in every way. They really do need to send their baristas to Motherland a hundred metres away to get some proper training! So do come for the steak and the ambience, you will not be disappointed, just skip the coffee and have a tea!
