The service was extremely slow. First we waited 20 minutes for the drinks orders to be taken. I didn't have my starter when the other main courses arrived. When we complained I was told (50 minutes after ordering) that the kitchen was too busy to prepare my Sukiyaki main course. While my fellow diners gobbled down their main course my starter (!) was nowhere to be seen. The waitress was utterly unfriendly and unhelpful and was complaining at least 4 times how short staffed they were. Not my problem, especially when you order a main course that sets you back 295 rands. When it finally arrived the whole experience of having food prepared at the table was spoilt by the extremely unprofessional waitress. My dress needs a dry clean after the hot oil from the frying pan which was placed right in front of my face splashed all over me. Why was it so close to my face? Because the table wasn't cleared up from any dirty dishes. When we left the table was still not cleared although the restaurant was almost empty. We asked for the manager twice but nobody showed up at the table. This was the most appalling dining experience in ever had. Would I ever go back? Not in this life time!

Best Japanese food I had in Joburg. Had excellent Dim Sum with beef and chives. Mixed sushi and sashimi platter, tempura ( excellent batter, crispy, crunchy no oil). Then we had seared salmon and teriaky(sp) beef with veg and rice. Wow the Salmon was like silk. The beef cooked to perfection.

I was most impressed. The owner was very friendly and willing to offer advice and made suggestions for us to try. We were offered a complimentary portion of crab California rolls and a dessert because we could only be seated near the forever opening and closing front door.

Very busy and bustling place with good service, friendly staff and a most enjoyable evening overall.

After eyeballing with this restaurant for a while I have been there today. The interior is great but the service and quality of food was only ok! Not even good. The food was all very plain and had not much taste. The corner tuck shop can do the same or better.

I've been looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant up in Joburg for a while. Japa was a really pleasant experience. The food came relatively quickly even though the restaurant was packed on a Saturday night.
The service was excellent. The owner of the restaurant came to every table to greet her guests and make them feel at home. The food was delicious! Best I've had in Joburg. Though I must say I still miss Papa-San's Takumi in Cape Town.
