This is Cape comfort food at its best with the famous pinotage burger (generous, juicy and delicious) taking pride of place with onion marmalade and chips. Also of note is the deliciously rich homemade tagliatelle with aubergine and baby marrow, which you make carnivorous by adding chicken or salami. Go the whole hog with slow-cooked pork belly with apple mousse, the matured rump, or a Klein Karoo lamb rack. Finish with buttermilk panna cotta or very good cheese cake.
Wine:The famous wines of Beyers Naude, including the iconic pinotage, are the stars of the show.
Service:Very warm and friendly; country-style.
Ambience:This is a no-frills winelands experience: very relaxed and unintimidating, overlooking the vineyards when the weather is good or cosying up inside when things turn inclement.
And...:Do a tasting and buy some wine to take home at cellar prices. (GL, October 2012)
