Bistrot Bizerca

This eatery has won a string of awards, and deservedly so for Chef Laurent Deslandes. Food is robust and quintessentially French with occasional local and Asian twists. The daily specials are presented on a chalkboard, very much like a French bistro. Expect excellent service from the host who guides each patron through the menu and wine options. The pig trotter with truffle oil and the apple tart are firm favourites.

Upmarket bistro. The new venue has a paved courtyard with a water feature and herb wall, making it perfect for warm afternoons and evenings.

I have not been to Bizerca since their old location in the business area in town. The new location is absolutely fantastic and a much warmer and more classy feel. The food and wines were superb and complemented by great service.

I booked dinner for Friday 1 March about 3 or 4 weeks in advance. When we arrived at Bizerca the waiter took us to a table in the court-yard without any chairs but, more importantly, right next to another table with smokers. We indicated that we did not want to sit next to a smoking table (for one my wife is asthmatic) and was reluctantly taken to the inside of the restaurant. For a supposedly first class establishment not to observe legislation around designated and separate smoking areas and, secondly, not to care that their non-smoking customers may have a problem with diners smoking in the court-yard is unacceptable. Once seated inside the maître d' took our order of still water for the table and said she would bring the black-board menu to our table. Nothing happened; five minutes later I got up to ask for our waiter. Another couple of minutes past without any response when we decided that if the atrocious service was anything to go by, we did not want to ruin our evening by staying any longer. So we left and will not return, which is a pity as I believe the food is supposed to be very good. Perhaps the owner should also pay attention to the poorly trained maître d’ and waiters in his employment.

I attend a monthly Dinner Club and over the 11 years I will say hands down Bizerca Bistro, is the top restaurant I have been to. The service is amazing, the owner took time to come to our table and suggest dishes that we might like according to our taste - what impressed me more is that he didn't suggest the most expensive dishes as do many restaurants. We were a large table of 14 and the food was brought out on time with no hassles. Almost everyone was silent over dinner except for the hmmmm's as the food was that good. Great wine menu too! I will be coming back here time and time again. Huge thumbs up!
